bookbinding
Custom design bindings reflect the matter of the book and the eye of the owner, bringing color, texture, and shape to a binding. Edition and case bindings match materials in leather, paper, or cloth with the era and aesthetics of the text itself.

Every stage of the custom book process can be accommodated in the studio, to create hardcover books in leather and cloth, in a range of structures and sizes. Working with the client, from the design to the completion, services include:
single copies and editions of hardbound books, hand-sewn in signatures to open flat, with hardcovers in cloth and leather and custom artwork;
collaboration with artists and designers on limited edition books;
design and leather bindings for contemporary books for presentation and collection;
hardbound scripts for wrap gifts and personal libraries;
prop books in a variety of historical styles, to specification;
page layout and book design using Photoshop and InDesign from client text and images;
commercial printing in color and black and white on a range of papers (through relationships with local printing companies)
compiled photo albums and scrap books, using archival structures and materials
All books are hand-sewn to open flat (“smythe-sewn”) using traditional and contemporary methods of book construction.
Original artwork and manuscript pages can be bound. A variety of traditional, contemporary, and artistic structures are available to suit the requirements of each project.
The studio prefers to oversee printing for all bookbinding projects. The studio uses archival book papers, and commercial Indigo printers. Any page size can be accommodated.
